Author MIKE GARDNER is the former sports editor of The Cumberland News who has won many national awards for creative writing including the prestigious Whitbread Features Writer of the Year in 1990.
Boxer is his second book on rugby league - the first was the acclaimed authorised biography of Willie Horne, the Barrow, Lancashire, England and Great Britain stand-off half and skipper, who was inaugurated into the Hall of Fame in 2014. Rugby League historian Robert Gate, who has written more than 30 books on the sport, described the biography as: 'The greatest book ever written on the sport.'
